Markscon integrates cutting-edge techniques and eco-friendly principles, ensuring projects not only meet but exceed environmental standards. This partnership on our Fareham project enables us to create a landmark development that prioritises sustainability, energy efficiency, and community well-being. Together, we are committed to setting new benchmarks in eco-conscious living, demonstrating that sustainable development is both practical and beneficial for the environment and residents alike.
Embracing PassiveHaus Principles
At the heart of the Fareham project lies our commitment to PassiveHaus principles, ensuring both energy efficiency and comfort. Thanks to Markscon, we are enhancing the thermal envelope of the building through comprehensive insulation strategies. Fareham will extensively use insulative materials, covering ceiling and wall spaces, and leveraging the thermal mass in concrete and selective floor coverings to regulate temperatures. Carefully selected materials will insulate any voids in the building, including ceiling spaces and walls, to prevent heat loss. The thermal mass of the building will help maintain stable indoor temperatures. We will implement appropriate window and door designs, including thermally broken systems, to minimise heat transfer. Our structural and facade systems will eliminate thermal bridges, reducing energy loss. Selected seals on external facades and other openings will ensure minimal heat/cold loss, while a heat recovery ventilation system will provide effective ventilation of apartments, maintaining a tempered airflow and enhancing indoor air quality and energy efficiency.
Green Concrete Technology Reduces Environmental Impact
In partnership with Hanson, Markscon is revolutionising the Fareham development with green concrete technology. By reducing Portland cement usage by 47% and incorporating recycled materials like fly ash and slag, they’re cutting down on natural resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This eco-friendly concrete also boasts improved durability and workability, leading to lower maintenance costs over time. While the initial investment might be higher, the long-term savings and alignment with global carbon reduction efforts make it a smart, sustainable choice for the future.
Prefabrication, Insulation and Waste Management Maximise Sustainability
To minimise material usage and waste, Markscon will produce concrete elements offsite whenever possible. This approach, combined with the repetition in the construction of structural elements, will lead to substantial reductions in new material consumption. Markscon is committed to reducing construction waste and diverting it from landfills. By working with waste partners, they aim to sort and separate waste such as metals, timbers, concrete, cardboard, and plasterboard for recycling. The goal is to divert 90% of all construction waste from landfills, significantly reducing the environmental footprint of the project.
At Gamuda Land, sustainability is at the heart of all of our projects. Our holistic approach underscores our dedication to creating sustainable, comfortable living spaces for our residents. To learn more, visit the Fareham website.
